1) Need to know how many riders can support an escort from Limon, CO to Pikes Peak National Cemetery. Would leave COS around 9:00AM, have lunch in Limon, then plan to leave Limon with LEO escort to PPNC.
UPDATE: COS area riders, meet at Kum & Go, 7375 Duryea Dr, Colorado Springs, CO 80923, 0845, KSU at 0900. Will make a swing through parking lot of Big R in Falcon to pick up some riders from Falcon area, and continue on to Limon.
UPDATE 08/18/2022: The organizers of this event have stressed they are a non-political group and want to ensure there are no political messages displayed on any of the escort bikes which could be interpreted as reflecting the views of their organization. Any riders with any political type sticker, banner, etc., are asked to ensure it is covered during the ride. This would include any 'Brandon' or 'FJB' stickers, or any other item pro or against any current or former elected official. If you have anything like this, please cover it. Blue painters tape would work well for this without any worry of it harming your bikes finish. Thank you for your compliance.
2) On the evening of the 24th, there is a Task Force Tribute dinner and concert at Boot Barn Hall, featuring local rock band 'The Martini Shot' - Those who participate in the ride or other parts of the mission can get a free ticket to the concert. Meal and drinks are on your own nickel.
"Task Force Tribute is a veteran inspired journey of remembrance, honoring the 7074 military members lost during combat operations since 9/11. One mile will be traveled for each service member lost.
As the joint service team embarks upon a journey that will cross America, it will collect and memorialize the priceless stories so many of our military members, veterans, and fellow Americans hold dear - those of loss, success and the many struggles and triumphs that will remind us that Americans have far more in common than we have differences.
While others will lead the noble effort of building a physical monument for the Global War on Terror (GWOT), our ambition is to construct a living memorial, instead of bricks and steel, our monument will be built with the stories and perspectives from veterans and their families that will evolve and grow as people contribute and memorialize their experiences.
On August 21st, 2022 this joint service team will embark with a send off by the Michigan National Guard in Lansing, Michigan, and will cross the United States making planned and unplanned stops. We will rest and ocmplete our journey September 11th in Washington DC."
Mission details will be posted in the near future, but need to pull together head counts from PGR before opening up to other VSO's. PGR will have the lead on this escort, and will have a Flag Line at PPNC for the ceremony.
