WWII veteran, Curt Cameron, will be turning 97 on January 11, 2021. His daughter, Wendy Cameron, is planning a surprise for him that involves a drive-by parade and the sending of birthday cards or letters in the Northern Colorado area, on Sunday, January 10, 2020 at 10:30AM.
On June 6, 1944, at the age of 20, and as a member of the 95th Squadron, 440th Troop Carrier Group, Mr. Cameron copiloted one of 867 gliders that crossed the English Channel and dropped 101st Airborne Division paratroopers on the Cotentin Peninsula of France as part of Operation Overlord, in support of the Invasion of Normandy. CPL Cameron was later awarded the Medal of the Jubilee of Liberty for his role in liberating France from the Nazis. Mr. Cameron is a lifetime member of the VFW and, since retiring as a Shop Foreman for a Ford Dealership in Kansas, he has organized and run the All Veterans Honor Guard in Fort Collins for the past 35 years.
Staging will take place in the large parking lot on the northeast corner of Elm Street and Wood Street in Fort Collins. The parking lot is just a block from his home. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the 10:30AM departure.
This will not be an official mission and there will be no Ride Captain assigned. Please pay attention to distancing and facial covering guidelines.
I was just reminded that Larimer County is still in Code Red for the Coronavirus. We have been asked to remain in our vehicles, but, if we do exit or open our car windows, a facial covering should be in place.
If you choose to send a birthday card or letter, please mail to: Curt Cameron c/o Wendy Cameron PO Box 775 Fort Collins, CO 80522

I am so glad it all went well. Am sorry I couldn't join you, but had a fibromyalgia flare up. Stay safe and warm everyone.
This was an uplifting event. So much of what we do is accompanied with sadness. Also, for many months, we all have been dealing with Coronavirus and political issues. This was a great escape for the six PGR members who participated in the parade. It was led by two Fire Trucks and a number of Law Enforcement vehicles, all with flashing lights. Mr. Cameron seem very pleased.
Thanks to those who attended, those who posted comments and to those who mailed cards and letters. This will be a great memory for this honorable gentleman.
Please stay safe on roads today.
I am hoping to attend depending on road conditions and visibility.
Happy 97th Birthday Mr. Cameron. Best wishes for a healthy and happy year ahead. Thank you for your valiant service to our country.
