Placing of Memorial Day Flags, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, was suspended in 2020 because of Coronavirus restrictions. The event will take place, this year, on Sunday, May 30, 2021 and Flags will be placed at every headstone, therefore, many volunteers will be needed.
8:30AM - Stage at the "old" Maintenance Building (just inside the North entrance). With the number of volunteers, it may be difficult to gather near the Visitors Center. The placement of Flags will begin at 9:00AM.

I will be honored to attend.
It will be an honor to participate in this event. I look forward to seeing you in the morning.
For those who are able to assist with the placement of Flags, on Sunday, following are some basic guidelines and recommendations:
PARKING: • You may park in the cemetery, on side streets or at the YMCA – Do not block ANY roads. (Carpooling is strongly recommended)
BRING: • Ruler – to measure 12" from the headstones (Paint stir sticks work well, too :) • Screw Driver – for pilot holes to sink flags 5" into the ground – mark them for 5" • Or something sturdy – marked for 5"
AT YOUR SECTION: • LEADERS hand out Flags - Please DO NOT help Yourself • FIRST – People with a Loved One in that section ALWAYS receive Flags first • NEXT – Volunteers registered for that section receive Flags • THEN – All others may receive flags
FLAG PLACEMENT: • Place FLAGS 12" from headstone – CENTERED – SINK 5" in ground - Do NOT PUSH down on the TOP of Flags – they WILL BREAK • FLAGS – ONLY in FRONT of headstones. NEVER in back, even if there is a name • COLUMBARIUMS –1 FLAG in front of each column, in the gravel trench right in front • NEVER MOVE anything at a grave. Place your FLAG next to any objects •
SAY EACH VETERANS NAME and RANK as you place a flag – THANK THEM for their service •
When your area is done, please help other areas until the Cemetery is complete • RETURN all Unused FLAGS / Rubber bands – We recycle & reuse all Flags - GOOD, Unused FLAGS in one tote - DAMAGED FLAGS – in separate tote •
TRASH – we leave the cemetery in PRISTINE condition
FLAG REMOVAL is Saturday, June 5th at 9:00AM. PLEASE COME TO HELP (and bring your closest friends!) Watch for instructions and information – coming soon. THANK YOU for helping us HONOR OUR FALLEN VETERANS. WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT AND PATRIOTISM.
The person who leads the effort to place Memorial Day Flags in a number of National Cemeteries, located in several States, is in desperate need of TEAM LEADERS for this years Flag placement at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Below are the sections that need Leaders and how many are needed.
It is easy work with for the Volunteers who will head up the sections. You would check people in and hand out Flags in your assigned sections. Also provide a two minute "how to" at the beginning. We tell you what to say, so don't worry. Then just ensure all spare flags go back into the totes along with broken ones. That's basically it.
Please post if you are able to be a TEAM LEADER.
Here are the Sections that are in need of Leaders.
