It is my privilege to stand for Mr. Vierra. I am available to RC.
To the family and friends of this hero I offer sincere condolences.
I knew Mr. Vierra when I worked at Samsonite in 1973 as a junior computer programmer and he was a senior executive. He proved to me what a great guy he was one morning when I had been working all night trying to find and fix a computer problem. I had commandeered a conference room and had listings spread all over the room when a person walked in and asked me when the problem would be fixed. Well, I had worked there maybe three weeks, knew nobody, and was in no mood for talking, so I said something to the effect that it would be fixed a lot quicker if I could be left alone to find it. He quickly walked out. My manager came in a while later and asked what I said to Fred. “Fred who? I threw him out”. “Um, Fred Vierra, the VP of finance, your boss’s boss’s boss.”. I thought I was at least fired. I found out later that Mr. Vierra (he was never “Fred” to me after that) thought my reaction was hilarious and told the story to the other executives and customers often about the kid programmer who threw him out of a conference room to get some work done.
Rest in peace, Marine and great boss. We have the watch from here.
