The Colorado Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by Tunnel to Towers Foundation to participate in a Hero Smart-home Dedication for SMSgt Israel 'DT' Del Torro Jr. on Wednesday, 19-Oct, at 11:00AM, 6550 Cowboy Ranch Way, Falcon, CO.
On December 4, 2005, United States Air Force SMSgt Israel Del Toro Jr.‘s Humvee hit an IED. The blast left him with severe burns on more than 80% of his body. He lost all his ngers on his left hand and had the fingers on his right hand amputated at his knuckles. Once given a 15 percent chance of survival, he went on to not only re-enlist in the Air Force, but also set records and win a gold medal at the 2016 Invictus Games. DT has taken the lessons he learned through hardship and recovery. He now finds purpose sharing his story and wisdom with audiences around the country in the hopes of helping others find the light in the darkness.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation builds mortgage-free smart homes for our most catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Each home is designed to address the unique needs of each individual. Smart homes host a myriad of features such as automated doors and lighting, wider halls and doorways, special showers to accommodate wheelchairs, automatic door openers, cabinets, counters, and stove tops that can be raised and lowered, back-up generators, and central heating and air conditioning systems that can be controlled by tablets. These homes help our most severely injured veterans and first responders to reclaim their day-to-day independence. Learn more at www.t2t.org
